There we are standing on a street corner you and I, cars are racing by at 20MPH, with us is a collage statistics professor. You want to walk across this street and she says. “odds are 8.5 to 1 that you will not make it across safely”. With odds like that would you want to chance it? I don’t think so.
You are sitting at a game of cards, Texas Hold Em. You may or may not have played this game of chance before. You are putting $50,000.00 down as your buy in. The dealer looks across the table at you and says “the odds are 8.5 to 1 that you will be broke or worse in 5 hands or less” Do you stay or get up and walk away?
A couple ridiculous examples of life, limb and money at risk. However every day hundreds if not thousands of people start a new business at an 8.5 to 1 odds that they will not make it 5 years. In 5 years time 85 out of 100 new businesses have failed here in the US, sometimes the owners are worse than broke. After all the hard work, sacrifices of money, time and even health they close the doors. If you would not take on the odds of the first two examples why keep yourself in the odds against you in business?
